Household Pests

waspThe Common Wasp

The common wasp, Vespula vulgaris, is 17-20mm long with colours of yellow and black. It makes its nest from chewed wood fibres and resembles grey paper. Often built underground but also found above ground near houses and on many occasions in spaces such as lofts. There is a hole in the bottom of the nest through which the wasps enter with food.

Although wasp larvae are fed on insects adults live on nectar and honey and will go for anything sweet. Hence they become a problem around food and drink. In many instances especially from mid-summer onwards they can become aggresive and sting. Each wasp can sting many times.

waspinator

They do fear wasps from other nests and therefore are always wary of being too close to other wasp nests. The picture on the right is Waspinator which resembles a waps nest and is designed to keep wasps away from the area where it is hung..

Waspinator is a natural way of deterring the wasps and is easy to use and does not require chemicals to sprayed into the air.

Just hang it up and watch those wasps fly away. Can be used in numerous places such as:

Flies

Flies are a nuisance and can be a health hazard.

Flies walk over food causing cross contamination. They further contaminate by laying eggs and other things on food.

At present we do not have any products available recommend the following to reduce thHousehold fly- musca domesticae incidence of flies:

When disposing of meat products and bones wrap in paper before placing in the dustbin.

Ensure that food is not left uncovered on the work surfaces or in the fridge

Flies will lay eggs on a food surface so that when they hatch into larvae (grubs) there is a ready supply of food.

Therefore the easiest way you can reduce houshold flies in your home without chemicals is by making sure you do not have anywhere they will lay eggs.

Remember pet food left around is an ideal source of food for flies and lovely place to lay eggs.
